CSAT against a target, not just a bare number

A CSAT percentage on its own does not tell you if it is good or bad -- it needs a comparison point. This page computes CSAT and immediately compares it against a benchmark you provide.

On the defaults, 80 satisfied out of 100 responses is 80% CSAT, exactly at an 80% benchmark. Raise satisfied responses to 85 and the tool shows you are 5 points above target.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How is CSAT calculated?

CSAT = satisfied responses (typically the top two boxes on a 5-point scale) / total responses x 100. Defaults: 80 satisfied out of 100 responses gives 80% CSAT.

What does the benchmark comparison add?

It subtracts your benchmark (a prior period, a team target, or an industry figure you paste in) from your current CSAT, so you get a plain "you are X points above or below target" verdict instead of just a bare percentage.

What benchmark should I use?

Common choices are your own trailing-quarter average, a team or company-wide target, or a published industry CSAT benchmark for your sector. There is no universal number -- CSAT varies widely by industry and survey design.

Is this the same as Net Promoter Score?

No. CSAT measures satisfaction with a specific interaction or period. NPS measures likelihood to recommend, using a %promoters minus %detractors formula. See the Net Promoter Score (NPS) Calculator for that metric.
