Comparing margin, not just price

Two print-on-demand or marketplace products can carry the same sticker price and still have very different profitability once you account for cost. This page runs margin math on two products side by side so you can see which one is actually more profitable per sale.

Defaults: both products retail at $25. Product A costs $12 to produce (52% margin); Product B costs $15 (40% margin). Product A wins by 12 percentage points even though the retail price is identical.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How does this comparator work?

Margin = (retail price - cost) / retail price x 100 for each product, computed independently, then compared. Defaults: Product A at $25 retail with $12 cost has a 52% margin; Product B at $25 retail with $15 cost has a 40% margin, so Product A wins by 12 points.

What counts as "cost" here?

Whatever you pay to produce and fulfill one unit -- print-on-demand base cost, materials, and any per-unit fulfillment or shipping you absorb. Platform commission is not broken out separately; fold it into cost if the platform takes a cut before you see the payout.

Can I compare two different price points, not just two costs?

Yes. Retail price is a separate field for each product, so you can compare a higher-priced product against a lower-priced one on margin percentage rather than raw profit dollars.

Why compare percentage margin instead of dollar profit?

Percentage margin tells you which product is more efficient per dollar of revenue, which matters when you are deciding what to promote or restock, independent of which one happens to be priced higher.
