Service businesses bill through Square Invoices more than a tap reader. The fee follows how the client pays, not the fact that you sent a PDF.

Formula

Card: fee = amount x percent + $0.30. ACH: fee = max($1, amount x 0.01). Net = amount - fee. Gross-up card: (desiredNet + 0.30) / (1 - percent).

Plus and Premium currently list 2.9% + $0.30 for online/invoice cards. Monthly software cost is not subtracted; add that in your own margin sheet.

Square Afterpay to the seller is a higher rate (often 6% + $0.30) and is a different calculator problem. Do not pick card-free to approximate Afterpay.

What is the default $250 card result?

Square Free: 3.3% of $250 is $8.25 plus $0.30 = $8.55 fee, net $241.45. ACH at 1% is $2.50, above the $1 floor, net $247.50.

When does the ACH $1 minimum bind?

1% of amounts under $100 is below $1, so Square still takes $1. A $40 ACH invoice fees $1.00, not $0.40. Plus/Premium ACH caps are not modeled; this page uses the $1 floor only.

How does gross-up work?

To take home $250 on Free card: invoice = (250 + 0.30) / (1 - 0.033) = $258.84. Check the box to treat the amount field as desired net. The primary card still shows net of the amount as a paid invoice.

Is this the in-person Square rate?

No. In-person tap/dip/swipe on Free is 2.6% + $0.15. Invoices paid by card use the online rate. Keyed payments are a third rate (3.5% + $0.15) and are not a mode here.
