Eight glasses is not a weight-adjusted plan

A 120 lb office day and a 220 lb hot-warehouse day are not the same bottle count. This calculator starts from body weight, adds fluid for minutes of exercise, then raises the base if the climate is hot or humid. Defaults: 160 lbs, 45 minutes, Temperate / Normal, output in ounces. Base = 160 x 0.5 = 80 oz. Workout = (45 / 30) x 12 = 18 oz. Climate = 0. Total = 98 oz (about 2.90 L, or 12.3 cups).

Switching lbs to kg converts the weight field (160 lbs becomes 72.6 kg) but does not change the formula. Both paths convert to pounds, then apply 0.5 oz per lb. That is 32.6 mL per kg, the US fluid-ounce conversion of 0.5 oz/lb, not a separate 33 mL/kg rule (which was about 29 mL high on the same mass). Workout is 12 oz per 30 minutes on both paths, so a unit toggle does not add or drop an ounce of base or workout fluid.

Hot / Humid applies +15% to the base only. On the 80 oz default that is +12 oz climate, then still +18 oz workout, total 110 oz. Cold does not subtract. You still lose water in dry winter air, but this model does not invent a discount. Exercise minutes go 0 to 300 in steps of 15. Zero minutes is a rest day: total equals the (possibly heat-adjusted) base.

The 200 oz / 6 L ceiling exists because hyponatremia is real

Endurance events and "gallon a day" challenges have sent people to the ER with low blood sodium. If this page prints more than 200 oz or more than 6 liters, the alert tells you not to force it. A 300 lb athlete doing 5 hours in heat will trip that banner. That is a planning warning, not a high score. Sip, include sodium in long sessions, and stop if you feel confused or nauseated.

Output preference only changes the unit labels. The three secondary cards (base, workout, climate) stay in the same unit as the headline so you can see which lever moved. Copy writes weight, minutes, climate, and all four quantities. Invalid weight (under 50) or minutes outside 0 to 300 disable copy and show n/a.

Alcohol, high-fiber days, and some medications change fluid need. This tool does not read your labs. Pale-straw urine, a stable morning weight, and no pounding headache after training are better live checks than any formula. Cuts, protein, and water go together

A calorie deficit from the BMR and TDEE Calculator often shows up first as "I feel flat," which is sometimes under-eating and sometimes under-drinking. High protein from the Macro Nutrient Calculator needs water for normal urea handling. None of these pages is a treatment plan. They are three numbers you can put on a phone screenshot: kcal, grams, ounces.

Recalculate when body weight or the training block changes, or when you travel from a temperate city to a humid one. Keep the climate control honest: an air-conditioned gym in July is closer to Temperate than Hot / Humid. Outdoor two-a-days in July are Hot / Humid. The badge under the total exists so a coach can see which climate you claimed.

A 1 liter bottle is 33.8 oz, so 98 oz is about three of those bottles. If you prefer cups, 12.3 US cups is the same volume. Do not down a bottle in two minutes to "catch up." Split the total across waking hours, drink more around the 45-minute training block, and keep extra on the bike only when the climate card is greater than zero.

One cup is 8 US fluid ounces. Liters are milliliters / 1000. The output dropdown converts the same total: 98 oz is about 12.3 cups or 2.90 L. Base, workout, and climate cards switch with it so the three parts still add to the headline.

When does the hyponatremia warning appear?

If the total is over 200 oz or over 6 liters, a live alert warns that forcing that volume can dilute blood sodium. Long exercise in heat raises the number. That is not a challenge to chug. Spread drinking through the day, and include electrolytes if you are a heavy sweater.

Does coffee or food water count?

This page is a fluid target, not a lab water-balance study. Many adults meet part of the total from food, tea, and coffee. If you already eat a lot of fruit and soup, treat 98 oz as an upper planning number, not a chug-the-difference order. Urine that is pale straw is a simpler field check.
