Shopper schedule versus seller take-rate

Pay in 4 splits the sticker price into four equal payments. Financing adds interest using the APR you paste. The merchant field is a separate seller cost and does not change the shopper payment card.

Default $200 Pay in 4 is $50.00 four times. Compare Afterpay and Affirm when the checkout button is not Klarna.

Formula

Pay in 4: payment = price / 4, interest = 0. Financing: amortized monthly payment from APR and months. Seller fee = price x merchant%.

If financing APR is 0, payments are price / months with no interest, which is not the same product as Pay in 4 even when both are 0%.

Late fees are not in the engine

Klarna can charge late or failed-payment fees that depend on the product and state. This worksheet assumes on-time payment.

Do not use the merchant percent as a shopper APR. They are different sides of the checkout.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Is Pay in 4 really 0%?

For US shoppers who pay each installment on time, Klarna Pay in 4 is typically interest-free. Late or failed payments can add fees that this page does not estimate. Default $200 is four payments of $50.00.

How is financing interest calculated?

Standard amortizing installment: monthly rate = APR/12, payment = P x r x (1+r)^n / ((1+r)^n - 1). That is not Pay in 4. Paste the APR from your Klarna contract, not a marketing range.

Who pays the 5.99% merchant fee?

The seller, not the Pay in 4 shopper. $200 x 5.99% = $11.98 seller cost. Set the field to 0 if you only care about the shopper schedule.

Is this Afterpay or Affirm?

No. Afterpay is also often four 0% payments with a different late-fee table. Affirm more often uses an APR on longer terms. Use those dedicated pages instead of stretching Klarna mode.
